We have Crepe Overtwist for Collapse Weave

We have just come back from the OHS Biennial Conference in Woodstock, Ontario.  The guest speaker and instructor was Anne Field travelling all the way from Christchurch, New Zealand.  What a lovely elegant lady!  She is well known world wide as an expert in spinning and weaving.  Collapse weave is one of her specialties and brought her skills to eager weavers wanting to better understand this unusual style of weaving.  Rose Haven is very fortunate that we stock Habu Textile’s Wool Crepe Overtwist which is one of the yarns used to create collapse weave effects.  We just about sold out!  But if you are interested in this technique, we have both the wool crepe overtwist and also the black or white silk crepe overtwist yarns.  If you wish to know about Anne Field, please check out her website at www.annefield.co.nz.  I have attached her amazing pleated collapse weave dress just to illustrate what you really can do with this technique.

Meanwhile we are now getting ready for The Knitters’ Frolic in Toronto on Saturday, April 30.  This is the premier spring knitting show in Ontario and sure to be a great day.  We will be coming with lots of Habu and reintroducing Maggiknits, the extraordinary garments of Maggie Jackson.  See ya soon!

Alive in New York City

We have just been back a short while from Vogue Knitting’s first knitting event, Live in New York City. Diane from the shop got to enjoy a workshop with Nicky Epstein, her favourite designer, and to explore freeform knitting. I, on the other hand, having come to my shop from being a shepherd, needed to bone up on my knitting skills so took cabling with both Melissa Leapman and Fiona Ellis and then a whole day with one of my favourite designers, iconic Irish designer Maggie Jackson. The fashion shows were fabulous, with Maggie’s garments paraded mere inches from me.

We also got to explore the city and took in 3 yarn shops as well as the showroom of Habu Textiles. Finally I got to meet Takako and seek out more unusual Habu yarns for the coming year. Our big hope this year is to have Takako join us in Picton near the end of June for a Habu Trunk Show. Lots of planning yet, but we are very hopeful. We have tried to find a way for a non-driver, namely Takako, to get to us. Hurrah for Via Rial!
